Care

Respite

Respite Care at Anthem is designed to provide temporary care relief for those in a number of situations.

When your carer needs a break or you require care while in recovery from hospital before heading home, you may need to have a short stay in residential care.  This is called ‘residential respite care’ and can be on a planned or emergency basis.
Even though many families take great joy in providing care to their loved ones so that they can remain at home, sometimes the physical, emotional, and financial consequences for providing family care can be overwhelming, without some support. This is where respite at Anthem can help.

Respite is designed to provide temporary care. Anthem offers a minimum 2-week respite period. Each resident is entitled to 63 days each financial year for respite.  These respite days are not to be used while you sell a house or organise finances for permanent accommodation. Respite is only for a break if the resident is returning home.

An Aged Care Assessment (ACAT) needs  to be completed before you can enter an Aged Care Facility

If you are assessed as eligible for entry into an aged care home, you will receive an approval letter and support plan from your ACAT that sets out the care you are approved to receive. The support plan will include a unique referral code which you will need to provide to us.
This assists us in determining the best location within the facility and level of care needed.

Current Care Fees & Charges

From 20 March 2025:

Daily Care Fee
is:  $63.82 per day + up to $12.50 per day (Additional Service).

The additional service fees cover:

In room personalised washing:  The standard service includes laundering residents' clothing through a central commercial laundry. However, an additional service is available in rooms equipped with Washer/Dryer combination machines. To confirm if this service is available in the room you're considering, please discuss it with our Admissions Coordinator. This service allows all personal clothing to be washed within the resident’s room using their preferred washing powders and softeners. Clothes can either be air-dried or machine-dried with a heat pump drying mechanism.  In cases of minor medical episodes requiring infection control measures, clothing may need to be laundered in the central laundry, but this will only be for the minimum time necessary. The cost for this additional service is $2.00 per day.

Personalised Air Conditioning Operation:  The standard service provides air conditioning regulated by a centrally programmed system. The additional service enables the in-room controller, allowing the resident to independently adjust the temperature to their preferred comfort level. If assistance is required, staff can set the controller according to the resident’s preferences. The daily cost of this additional service is $3.50 per day.

A la Carte meal selections:  This additional service allows residents to customise their meal selections, including ingredient choices, portion sizes and meal frequency. The daily cost of this is $7.00 per day.

Daily Care Fee charges increase on the 20 March & 20 September each year.

If you receive a pension from the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA), you are entitled to 4 weeks of respite care paid for by Vet Affairs. You must contact them to provide the dates and location of the respite, and request the grant before entering care. This benefit is only available if the resident is returning home after their care period.

Private Respite is available (without an ACAT) at a cost of $320.00 per day.  If no ACAT can be completed in time, or if the person is ineligible for an assessment, we can offer private respite.
